Our Family Coalition promotes the equality and well-being of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer families with children. We foster community leadership in advocacy efforts that promote social justice.
Our Family Coalition was formed in 2002 through the merger of two organizations: the East Bay-based Our Family (founded in 1994) and the San Francisco-based All Our Families Coalition (founded in 1996).
We seek to create an inclusive and just world where all LGBTQ families with children have visibility and opportunities to thrive as valued participants in our schools, institutions, and communities.
Our Family Coalition brings a unique and progressive voice of families to the LGBTQ movement. We cultivate community-based leadership among LGBTQ families and strong partnerships with our allies in California, to advance social justice and make our nation a more respectful and inclusive place for all.
WHAT WE DO
Policy Work & Advocacy
Our Family Coalition strives to increase visibility and achieve justice and full equality for LGBTQ families. Along with our families, we work with local, state, and national coalitions to advocate for change on issues relevant to our families, including family equality, inclusive schools, immigration reform, and healthcare reform. In the media and in political forums, we work to improve public perception of and policy for LGBTQ families.
We provide support for LGBTQ families with children, prospective parents, youth, allies, community partners and volunteers. Our support consists of workshops, support groups, outings, seasonal celebrations, meet ups, classes, play dates and referrals in San Francisco and the East Bay.
Our Family Coalition’s Welcoming and Inclusive Schools Program (WISP) works with families, teachers, administrators, and child-serving professionals to create more welcoming schools and agencies to serve LGBTQ families and their allies. We believe that schools should be a positive place to learn where all students are invited and encouraged to be their full selves.
